Steve is a second generation fishing professional, taking after his father Jim Smith of Berkeley, California's Happy Hooker Sport Fishing fame. Deckhands are all experienced fishermen.

For the record, Steve's brother James Smith captains his California Dawn, also in Berkeley, CA.
