Captain Steve's Fishing Lodge
~ About Our Lodge ~

Captain Steve Smith is a second generation master fisherman.

It runs in the family... He and his father Jim, and brothers Chris & James all have a lifetime of professional fishing and guiding experience in the San Francisco Bay Area which is also famous for salmon, halibut, striped bass, sturgeon, albacore, rockfish and lingcod. Jim Smith owns and operates the famous Happy Hooker sport fishing boat, James Smith operates his charter boat California Dawn (both in Berkeley and Martinez, California) and Chris Smith owned the Captain Hook (out of Berkeley, California also) for many years.

Captain Steve started as a deckhand for his dad at 12 years old and by 1988 obtained his 100 Ton Master Captain's License and headed north to Alaska.  There was not much in the way of quality accommodations in this area, Ninilchik on the Kenai Peninsula and soon Captain Steve and his wife LeAnne planned for and opened their own very special fishing lodge to provide first class accommodations to their fishing friends.

In 1991 they entered a partnership in a charter business developed it for several years and sold it to a wonderful family from Wyoming. In 2004 they opened the lodge, Captain Steve's Fishing Lodge.

In 2006 the lodge was redesigned and remodeled with a whole new polished look.

24 guests can relax in a huge place with room to roam inside and out. “Creature comforts” are their greatest concern and Captain Steve’s Fishing Lodge, fine dining, billiards, trophy room, wifi and many other amenities are inside.

Lodge staff members are there for everything on the water or on land, in the lodge or while out on the water. They even pick you up and drop you off from Homer or Kenai Airports. Some clients rent a car in Anchorage and do a little sightseeing on to way to the lodge. The drive is a beautiful 200 mile journey around Turnagain Arm which has the second largest tides in the world some reaching 40 feet! you'll drive past Portage Glacier, a wonderful Wildlife viewing park, over the Kenai Mountain Range, along the Kenai River and down the Cook Inlet bluff to the lodge When you get to the lodge, you will be greeted by our staff. Shown around the lodge and introduced to everyone.

When it is time to go, all contingencies are covered.  Your catch will be professionally prepared by our staff in our own processing facility, vac packed, labeled, froze and boxed in airline approved 50 lb. boxes or we can arrange shipping for you.

You will take away the memories of a lifetime and have the freshest Alaskan seafood on the block!

A personal note from Captain Steve:

“I have been guiding here in Alaska for well over 20 years and still find it hard to sleep the night before a fishing trip... I get so excited because each trip is unique and you never know what you'll see or catch. I never take it for granted, I love to show clients the most incredible scenery when were on the water and say, welcome to my office!”

Our digital conference room is "State of the Web" and designed for serious business needs even in our remote Alaska location!
